Facts About The Nucleus

1. The nucleus has a double membrane (or nuclear envelope) around it. 
2. The nuclear membrane has pores, allowing substances to move through it.
3. The nuclear membrane joins up with the endoplasmic reticulum. 
4. The nucleus contains genes that hold the information needed to produce proteins.
5. There may be at least on dark stained body that is called a nucleolus.
6. The nucleus contains chromosomes which are made of DNA and associated proteins called histones.
7. Althogh Leeuwenhoek was believed to have observed the nucleus in fish blood it was botanist Robert Brown who was credited.
